Global markets are already seeing an increase in prices for component and electronics as a result of the ongoing chip production crisis, but there is another negative effect that semiconductor shortages are having: a flood of fake, substandard chips, says, with many electronic manufacturers now resorting to risky supply channels to meet demand.

Nikkei Asia also reports the problem, as encountered by a Japanese electronics manufacturer. The company was unable to purchase microcomputers from normal sources, the company placed an order through the website at a factory in southern China. Unfortunately, when the microcomputers arrived, they couldn’t open the products. An expert inspecting chips found that the specifications of the products sent from China were completely different from those ordered despite the manufacturer’s name on the packaging appearing to be authentic.
